Senate Resolution 8
A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND TO CONGRATULATE MARY COPELAND UPON BEING SELECTED AS THE BELLSOUTH FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.
WHEREAS, Mary Copeland was selected as the BellSouth Female Athlete of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Mary Copeland has been a competitive bowler for 29 years; and
WHEREAS, Mary Copeland has won numerous awards in both the Senior Olympics and the state games; and
WHEREAS, Mary Copeland has competed in the State Games of Mississippi for the past five years and has won the Gold Medal each year; and
WHEREAS, in 1998, Mary Copeland took home the gold at the State Games of Mississippi in Division 4, 175 and above, with a score of 1,174; and
WHEREAS, Mary Copeland is an avid supporter and volunteer for the State Games of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Mary Copeland has encouraged numerous athletes with special needs; and
WHEREAS, Mary Copeland has given amateur athletes the opportunity to participate in athletic competition; and
WHEREAS, the BellSouth Athlete of the Year program was developed by the State Games of Mississippi to honor the foremost male and female amateur athletes; and
WHEREAS, Mary Copeland was selected Female Athlete of the Year not only for her athletic accomplishments but also for her exemplary sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate to commend the meritorious achievements of the citizens of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, That the Senate does hereby commend and congratulate Mary Copeland for her athletic achievements and for being selected as the 1998 BellSouth Female Athlete of the Year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Mary Copeland.
